THE FOLLOWING WAS MAILED TO RELEVANT HOME OWNERS/AGENCIES ON JAN 15, 2025 WITHIN THE OUTLINED ZONES.
We are contacting you in writing to inform you of the existence of our Wellhead Protection Program pursuant to the Safe Drinking Water Act administered by Department of Health under Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 246-290. The goal of the program is to identify potential sources of contamination to groundwater sources.
We have mapped the area overlying the short-term recharge zone of our drinking water supply wells. This mapped area includes your property. Based on the county land-use zoning maps, it is possible that your property contains a source of potential hazard as stated in the WAC – septic tank and/or water well. We ask, as a part of this program that you acquaint yourself with recommended septic system operations. Here is a helpful link to the Jefferson County web site.
The purpose of this letter is to make you aware of the program. The initial contact with property owners was made several years ago; this letter is an update to let current owners know of the program.
Our water system has approximately 1,700 residential connections in addition to serving all of the commercial interests within the Port Ludlow Master Planned Resort (MPR) boundary. The enclosed maps show the estimated time-of-travel boundaries for our wells. Simply stated, each of the zones indicate the estimated interval between the time a particle of water is introduced at the zone boundary and its eventual arrival at the well.
Thank you for your support of our efforts to protect our drinking water supplies.
